When things get Rough
Don't let your spirits drop
Know there are friends to share
All your sorrys and woe's
Trust in god for he is there
Never doubt the things to be
For there are reasons for things to bear
I lost a loved one but god took him home
My health has gone down but it was for me to see
That there are friends who are there
No matter what your all about
I lost my job but I can see
That is was the best for me to be free
To do the things I want to do
So you see things can get rough
Just trust that it was ment to be
Don't let it get you down
I tell you this to make you see
That there are thing that are ment to be
Life goes on and we survive
So don't feel sorry for me or you
Just pick up the pieces and go on
For things that happen in our lives
Are there to make you see
We can survive the tests of time
And still be happy from time to time
I love the friends that I have made
For without them it would be tough to bear
The things in life we must endure
So if you have the friends to share
Give them a hug and let them know you care. |

Butt...I mean...But, of course
You KNOW I had to leave that open to your artistic interpretation and expression. Can't wait to see what you come up with. |

Two Dresses,
by Dee-Marie
[word count 763]
It was midnight, the witching hour—the clock ticked steadily, a constant reminder that in twelve hours my life would change forever. With trepidation, I put the wineglass, filled with pinot noir, to my lips and sipped slowly. Just last week, my mother had given me the rare bottle of wine, and a pair of crystal goblets, purchased on her recent visit to France. "Like the grapes that produced this wine, you were also a difficult child to raise," my mother had whispered, as she affectionately kissed my cheek. How ironic, I mused, as I allowed the wine's liquid silk to linger upon my tongue.
I knew that she wanted to add, that like the wine's grapes, I was also thin-skinned and genetically unstable, but due to the upcoming celebration, she mercifully did not allow her words to flow. Knowing that after twenty-six years of being her daughter, I could easily read her thoughts, merely by gazing into her velvet-brown eyes. Eyes filled with an equal measure of disappointment and admiration.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, my gaze fell upon the two dresses casually tossed over the chair in the corner: one white, one black. A sight I had managed to avoid until now, a sight that caused me to angst once more over my upcoming dilemma. My stomach ached as I quickly closed my eyes and took another sip, willing time to stop, logically knowing the folly in attempting to change fate.
Life was not fair, and we had planned a lifetime for tomorrow's event. All my mother's hopes and dreams were now dependant on the color of a dress. Without thinking, I tossed the glass, with a strength that equaled the pain in my broken heart. My stomach ached again, upon hearing the goblet shatter as it hit the wall. The wine has good legs, I murmured, watching the liquid run, blood-red down the white surface. Curling into a fetal position under the down comforter, I hoped to depart my torment by slipping into a world of sweet dreams.
The rattle of the thick curtains being flung open, and a sudden shower of the sun's warmth, slowly transported me from peaceful slumber to harsh reality.
"It is late, have you made your decision?"
The question, more than her voice, grated on my nerves. Childlike, I pulled the covers over my head and once more willed time to stop.
"It is late," she repeated, yanking back the comforter.
With a sigh, I crawled out of bed. Tiptoeing around the shards of broken glass strewn over the once white Berber carpet, I made my way into the bathroom to shower, to wash away the sins of this upcoming day. Lingering under the steady stream of warm water, I finger combed my wet hair, hearing my mother's voice echoing within my memories. "It's all the rage in Europe this year," she had chirped, patting me on the shoulder, as we both watched my long mane falling gracefully onto my lap. As always, she was right, and I was thankful for her talking me into the easy care, extremely short style. Especially today, the last thing I wanted was to have anyone fussing with my hair.
The fleeting, pleasant moment was shattered, as a piercing voice rang out, her words, a mixture of displeasure and warning, penetrated the thick wooden door. Time was waning, and I could not put off the inevitable decision. My angst grew anew, as I placed my hand on the door's lever.
Upon opening the door, my sister stood before me, impatiently holding two dresses by their custom-made hangers. I swallowed hard as my fingers gently ran across each garment. Both dresses were exquisitely made of the finest silk. The white one, mother had helped me find six-months ago, we had searched the stores for months until finding the dress of our dreams. My sister purchased the black one in haste yesterday, in anticipation of this foreseeable undesirable decision that I had been forced to make.
"Mother would want you to pick the white one," she voiced, with a sincere tone of concern and understanding.
Sighing deeply, dry-eyed, I looked longingly at the white dress, as I reached for the hanger holding the black one. Dressing for mother's funeral, I rationalized that love comes in many forms, and that an unexpected last good-bye must take precedence over my well-planned nuptials. I poured another glass of pinot noir into the lone remaining crystal goblet. How ironic, I mused, as I allowed the wine's liquid silk to linger upon my tongue. |

Hi everybody,
I received three emails from folks saying they were having trouble logging in to get their entries uploaded. Because I'm working with them to get these technical difficulties taken care of we're going to extend the deadline a little bit to let them participate.
Sorry for the delay.
Thanks!
